Kaplan University Mission

Kaplan University is an institution of higher learning dedicated to providing innovative undergraduate, graduate, and continuing professional education. Kaplan University’s programs foster student learning with opportunities to launch, enhance, or change careers in today’s diverse global society.

Kaplan University is a part of Kaplan Higher Education Corp., which is a part of Kaplan, Inc., a subsidiary of The Washington Post Company. Today, Kaplan comprises half of the Post Company’s revenue and is its fastest-growing division.

Purposes

To accomplish its mission, Kaplan University has established the following purposes:

Provide academic programs that have been developed and assessed by faculty, staff, and members of educational, professional, and business communities.

Provide intensive and comprehensive instruction using both onsite and online modes of delivery that strengthens student academic achievement.

Instill in its students the value of lifelong learning by stimulating intellectual curiosity, creative and critical thinking, and awareness of culture and diversity.

Plan and provide facilities and resources that respond to the needs of students, faculty, and staff.
Assist students in developing professional attitudes, values, skills, and strategies that will foster success in their careers and in life.

Prepare students to meet the ever-changing needs of their communities now and in the future.

Kaplan University History

As one of the world’s leading providers of lifelong education with operations around the globe, Kaplan University has evolved well beyond their historic roots in test preparation and now serve students of all ages through a wide array of offerings. These include programs for kids and schools, post-secondary education, professional training, and more.

Kaplan University, formerly Kaplan College, Quest College, and American Institute of Commerce (AIC), was founded in 1937. AIC was purchased by Quest Education Corporation in November 1998 and in April 2000 changed its name to Quest College. Quest Education Corporation was purchased in July 2000 by Kaplan, Inc.

In November 2000, the name of the College was changed to Kaplan College. In 2004, Kaplan College expanded its academic offerings to include master’s-level programs and became Kaplan University. Kaplan Higher Education Corporation and Kaplan, Inc. are dedicated to continuing the same excellent education for which AIC has always been known.

Accreditation

Kaplan University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).

Kaplan Higher Education includes more than 70 campuses in the U.S. and abroad, as well as online programs through Kaplan University and Concord Law School. Kaplan University offers career-oriented master's, bachelor's, and associate's degrees as well as certificates and diplomas.

Through Kaplan Higher Education, students gain the skills necessary to qualify for employment in a variety of fields, including criminal justice, health care, business, education, financial planning, information technology, legal studies, fashion, and design. Each of the individual schools in the division is separately accredited by one of several national or regional accrediting agencies approved by the U.S. Department of Education. Kaplan also operates Dublin Business School, Ireland's largest independent third-level institution, and runs a partnership with Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom that provides courses to international students seeking admission to programs at the University.

Kaplan University suggests and encourages its students to independently research the licensing requirements in any state where they intend to seek licensure.
