Mountain State University Online
Mountain State University Online
Mountain State University offers online courses and degrees via the Blackboard CE and WebCT CE 4 learning management systems. Both programs feature tools that allow students to access course information, communicate with their instructors and other students, take exams, and submit assignments.
Distance learning is education delivered to locations away from the classroom. Distance learning can supplement or replace traditional classroom education through the use of instructional television, computer or Web-based training, and numerous other technologies. Distance learning makes professional development accessible to students who work during traditional classroom hours. Through flexible learning schedules, students can learn at their own pace and at a time and place that is convenient for them. Distance education also makes learning accessible to the disabled and others who are not able or cannot afford to come to a traditional college campus for their education.
Mountain State University History
Mountain State University was founded as Beckley College in 1933. Located in the heart of southern West Virginia, the private, not-for-profit institution began as a junior college in response to the community's desire to provide accessible higher education to its youth. At a time when fewer than 10 percent of high school graduates nationally were attending college, Beckley College opened with 97 students and classrooms rented from a local church.
During its first half century, the college experienced slow but steady increases in enrollment, staff, facilities, and programs. In 1990, five presidents and 57 years later, President Charles H. Polk took on the challenges of leading Beckley College into a new era.
The past two decades have been a time of tremendous change, including the transition from a two-year to a four-year college, then to a master's level institution and, in 2009, to the doctoral level. The campus has grown and degree programs have expanded to include high-demand professional and technology fields as well as the humanities, arts, and sciences. The name Mountain State University was adopted in August 2001.
In addition to traditional classroom-based studies, MSU now serves thousands of students across the country and around the world with a system of branch campuses as well as distance learning, nontraditional credit options, and collaboration with a variety of industry and education partners. Today, as throughout its history, Mountain State University remains committed to its founding vision of fostering opportunities for personal and professional success.

Fremont College
About Fremont College
Some online schools will have you read text and complete assignments like you would in a correspondence course. Fremont College believes that students need interaction with their peers and instructors, and has implemented its unique instructional methodology, Professional Action Learning Online, to make courses a lot more engaging and interesting.
Fremont students read text, listen to audio, and watch streaming video lectures. They deepen their learning through asking questions of professors and each other through message boards, and complete group projects that promote lively discussion and student contributions. Groups then have the opportunity to “teach back” to their class by recording videos and receiving feedback. Students maintain a reflective summary journal and archive their knowledge in learning gems. The entire process is designed to make the learning stick and prepare Fremont graduates to start their career immediately after completing their program.
Fremont College History
Their story began in 1879 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Platt College was founded as a private school to help students of that era find their way in a changing America. In 1986, a California campus was established. As their schools curriculum and courses evolved and their progressive approach to learning became more unique and fresh, they took the new name of Fremont College to represent their new identity.
With a heritage and a progressive learning methodology born of cutting-edge research from their Chairman at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, its easy to see how Fremont College offers students a quality educational experience. On one hand, a tradition of academic excellence and a commitment to developing their students full potential; on the other, a cutting-edge curriculum designed to meet the fast-paced demands of today's world.
In recent years, Fremont College has undertaken a major expansion plan, adding new degree programs and refining the curriculum and courses: offering associates degrees in Business Administration, Paralegal Studies and Sports and Rehabilitation Therapy along with diplomas in Massage Therapy. They also relocated to a brand new facility in Cerritos, California that offers their students an engaging learning atmosphere. At Fremont College, they will continue growing and evolving to meet the ever-changing demands of career-oriented students like you.
At the core of Fremont Colleges differentiation strategy is their teaching methodology, Professional Action Learning Embedded with Industry (PAL). Fremont Colleges Chairman and CEO Sabrina Kay, developed PAL during her studies at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School to create an engaging and fun learning experience for students who may have difficulty devoting full time to their studies, such as working adults returning for college.
Fremont College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology
Fremont College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT) to award Associate of Arts degrees (AA), Associate of Science degrees (AS), and Diplomas. This accreditation qualifies Fremont to participate in several Federal Financial Aid Programs, which provide grants and loans to eligible students. Fremont College degrees include: Business Administration Associate's Degree, Paralegal Associate's Degree, Sports & Rehablitation Therapy Associate's Degree.
· Fremont College's Paralegal Studies Program is approved by the American Bar Association. As of January 2009, there are only 25 such programs in the state of California.

History of NAU
In 1941, the university, then known as National School of Business, opened its doors in South Dakota to students who desired specialized business training. Located on a Rapid City main street, the school offered primarily secretarial and accounting classes and programs.
Through World War II and the Korean War years, the university remained in its original location. Ground was broken at 321 Kansas City Street, Rapid City, South Dakota, in the latter part of 1960 for a new two-story brick building containing classrooms, a bookstore, a small library and administrative offices. In 1963, the construction of a student residence hall, the College Inn was completed.
Anticipating a post-war demand for business curriculum with new classes in accounting, marketing and management, when the demand came, the university was ready with programs geared toward the educational needs of returning veterans who wanted business training, and men and women who sought an expanded role in the business world.
Faculty and staff increased in number and, with National American University's growing stature in the educational community, new and transfer students from across the United States and foreign countries came to study. The university soon expanded its base of programs.
On the campus in Rapid City, several buildings have since been added, including a library, a gymnasium, and additions to the Administration Building and the College Inn.
In past years National American University campuses have been established in Denver and Colorado Springs, Colorado; Albuquerque and Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Independence and Zona Rosa (Kansas City), Missouri; Bloomington, Brooklyn Center and Roseville (Minneapolis), Minnesota; Overland Park and Wichita, Kansas and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. There is also an extension location at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota and an education center in Watertown, South Dakota.
In 1996 National American University began to develop online courses to be offered through the emerging resource of the World Wide Web. Since that time the NAU Distance Learning program has created a virtual campus offering degree programs in several academic areas. With the addition of online course offerings and degrees, students have access to learning 24-hours a day from anywhere that the Internet can be accessed.
The curricular offerings include degrees in accounting, general education studies, information technology, paralegal studies, medical assisting, medical administrative assistant, applied management, business administration, therapeutic massage, athletic training, health care management, nursing, organizational leadership, and veterinary technology.

Since 1881, they have remained dedicated to providing a hands-on education in a real-world setting taught by experienced, caring faculty.
With more than 20 bachelor’s degrees, associate degrees and certificate programs, their students enjoy the variety and flexibility of their academic programs whether they want to hone their skills or earn a degree.
Mission
Central Penn’s mission is to provide an education that prepares its graduates to obtain employment or advancement in their chosen field, continue their education, and be contributing members of society.
Core Values
What do the words integrity, professionalism, service, respect, and educational focus mean to you? At Central Penn, they are the five pillars on which they stand while preparing students for future personal and professional success.
Central Pennsylvania College History
Central Pennsylvania College Central Pennsylvania College traces its history to 1881, when Joseph N. Currey founded the Pennsylvania Business College at 307 Market Street in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. For the next 89 years, a continuous series of career-oriented business colleges existed on Market Street in the heart of the business district of Harrisburg. Their main focus was always clear – to provide career-oriented education.
In 1922, Professor William H. Hartsock was relieved from his position as head of the accountancy department at the Harrisburg Business College/School of Commerce located at 15 S. Market Square. Numerous faculty and anywhere from 150 to 250 Harrisburg Business College students followed Professor Hartsock, who, on October 30 that same year, opened the doors to Central Pennsylvania Business College, less than three blocks away. By 1923, all predecessor institutions (Pennsylvania Business College, Harrisburg Business College/School of Commerce) were non-existent. Only Hartsock’s Central Pennsylvania Business College survived.
In 1970, Central Pennsylvania Business School moved across the Susquehanna River to Summerdale, Pennsylvania. Bart and Jean Milano began the creation of the School’s current suburban Harrisburg campus, featuring all new structures that included academic buildings, apartment-style housing, and recreation facilities. The transition from business school to college began in 1977 when the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools accredited Central Penn. In 1999 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania recognized Central Penn as a two-year college with degree granting privileges. In December of 2000, Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Education approved Central Pennsylvania College to operate as a four-year degree granting college.
In 2002, the College doubled the size of its academic buildings with the opening of the Advanced Technology Education Center, which also houses a conference center and restaurant. Later that year, Henszey’s Bridge, an 1869 wrought iron structure listed in the National Historic Register, was restored and placed in the center of the campus. It serves both practical and symbolic purposes. The Charles “T” Jones Leadership Library opened its doors in October 2002. In addition to serving Central Penn’s academic needs, it houses a collection of personal development and leadership materials from many of the country’s top motivational speakers and authors. Constructed in the spring of 2003, the Craiger C. Parker Amphitheatre showcases the College’s core values and provides a scenic setting where outdoor classes and other activities can be held.
In 2004, Central Pennsylvania College began offering online courses as well as blended courses, and opened its first additional location – Central Penn Lancaster. Located just off Route 30 near the heart of downtown Lancaster, Central Penn Lancaster currently serves approximately 100 adult students enrolled in bachelor degree completion programs in a variety of majors. Plans are underway to open a similar location in the Lehigh Valley area.
In 2005, Central Penn was granted permission from the Middle States Commission and the Pennsylvania Department of Education to begin offering two fully online bachelor degree programs. Today Central Penn offers seven fully-online degrees.
In 2006, the College completed a $1,000,000 learning facility at its main campus - featuring a crime lab, a physical therapist assistant clinic, and a medical assisting lab.
In June 2007, the Central Pennsylvania College Education Foundation announced completion of its $1,000,000 Campaign for Scholarships.
In October 2007, the new Student Fellowship Area opened when 1 1/2 acres were transformed into a beautiful outdoor setting with a large amphitheatre, a stage/performance area, a picnic area, and a plaza, all connected by macadam stamped pathways. Professionally designed landscaping, lighting, fencing, and a wrought iron archway add to this attractive campus addition.
Central Pennsylvania College is Harrisburg’s private, residential co-educational college. In addition to academic buildings, conference center, library, historic bridge, and Craiger C. Parker Amphitheatre, the 35-acre campus includes furnished apartments, townhouses, recreational facilities, and a child development center.
Educational offerings at Central Penn include a wide variety of practical, high-quality, career-focused programs. Additional bachelor degree programs continue to be submitted for review by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The College currently serves approximately 1,150 traditional-age residential and non-residential students and working adults across central Pennsylvania.
Central Penn’s mission is to provide an education that prepares its graduates to obtain employment or advancement in their chosen field, continue their education, and be contributing members of society.

Ashford University Online
About Ashford University Online
How do Ashford University's online classes work?
As an online student with Ashford University, your online classes take place in Blackboard, Ashford University's online platform. Blackboard is an asynchronous environment, meaning that you can log in at any time at your convenience. You will communicate with your instructor and fellow students, read some assigned texts, post your assignments and comment on other students' assignments all through the Blackboard environment.
How many times do I need to log in to my online class?
Log in at least two separate days each week to meet Ashford University's minimum attendance requirement for each online class.
Do I have to log in at a specific time?
No, you get to choose when and where to log in, which allows you to fit your degree program into your busy schedule. Your online classroom takes place in an asynchronous environment, which means that all students are free to participate at their own pace, so long as they log in at least 2 times per week, and on separate days.
What assistance does Ashford University offer to students who need extra academic support?
If you are like most Ashford University online students, then you are probably a working adult, and maybe it has been some time since you took a college-level class. Have no fear! Ashford University's online degree programs are specifically designed for adult learners. You will have your own personal Academic Advisor who will support you through the entire process, and to whom you can direct your questions. You will find all your instructors very understanding, supportive, and easy to contact. And all students are automatically eligible for unlimited free tutoring and academic coaching.
Do we have to do group work or team projects?
Absolutely not! You're a busy person with your own life, and Ashford University instructors only grade students on individual effort, never on group work.
Do I have to complete my Associate's degree before I can start an Ashford University Bachelor's degree program?
No, if you meet Ashford University's admission requirements, you may enter directly into a Bachelor's degree program at Ashford University online, even if you have never attended a college or university before. If you only want to earn an Associate's degree, then you have the option of enrolling in Ashford University's Associate of Arts in Business online degree program.
How does my degree from Ashford compare to degrees from other schools?
Your degree from Ashford University is equally valuable, accepted, and honorable as any equivalent degree you could earn from another accredited school or university, whether on a traditional campus or online. The only difference between a degree from Ashford University and a degree from another school is the money and time you'll save through Ashford University.
Is it true that I can get a degree for free?
Not at all. There is no such thing as a university education that is free of charge. Almost all students choose to apply for student loans, which do have to be re-paid. The idea that you can go to a four-year university for free is a persistent misconception. Some students receive small grants and scholarships, but these are relatively rare and almost never cover the full cost of tuition, even at a highly affordable institution like Ashford University.
Do I qualify for Financial Aid?
You will partner with a Financial Services Advisor to determine whether you can benefit from the various Financial Aid options offered. Financial Aid programs include the Federal Stafford Loan, the Federal PLUS Loan and in some cases, the Federal Pell Grant.
How does the graduation ceremony work for online students?
No matter where you live, even as an online student you are invited to participate in commencement ceremonies held in May and December on our campus in Clinton, Iowa. If you are visiting from out of town, you are responsible for arranging your own travel and accommodations. Remember that all students, both on campus and online, are required to submit the appropriate paperwork to petition to graduate.
Can I transfer all the credits I have earned from other schools I attended?
You'll be thrilled to learn that you can transfer up to 99 credits of previous coursework toward your Bachelor's degree from Ashford University. Talk to an Enrollment Advisor to find out how your credits can transfer.
Please note that transferring credits is always subject to Ashford University transfer credit policies, and requires the submission of official transcripts. The official transcripts will be evaluated to determine the credits that will officially apply toward an Ashford University degree program.
How long will it take me to earn my degree?
Thanks to Ashford University's accelerated pace, you can expect to finish your Bachelor's degree in no more than four years. Many students who transfer in a large number of credits from previous schools often graduate in less than two years.
Classes run continuously, rather than in semesters. Typically, you take one course at a time and move on to the next course without a break. Opportunities to enroll and begin a course sequence in a degree program are available every week
Is there any way that I can graduate faster than the regular four years?
Yes! One way is to transfer in credits from previous coursework. In some cases, you may also choose to take two classes at once, if you qualify after having completed your first two classes online. Work with your Enrollment and Academic Advisors about this option.
Another way to speed your success is to turn your work and life experience into transferable credits through the Prior Learning Assesment (PLA). From work training, workshops, and other sources, you can earn credit for learning experiences by documenting that learning. You may transfer in up to 75 credits through Ashford University's PLA Center. Use these credits to satisfy requirements in your Bachelor's degree program.
Is Ashford University an accredited school? What is the difference between regional and national accreditation?
Yes, Ashford University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (www.ncahlc.org). Whereas national accreditation is typically associated with vocational or trade schools, regional accreditation denotes a traditional university that prepares students for advanced degrees. Regional accreditation is important to anyone seeking a degree, because it serves as the recognized standard used to identify quality in American higher education. Credits earned at one regionally accredited university or college can readily be transferred to another regionally accredited university or college.
