About ITT Technical Institute

ITT Educational Services, Inc. is a leading private college system focused on technology-oriented programs of study. It operates over 100 ITT Technical Institutes in more than 30 states which predominantly provide career-focused, degree programs to approximately 61,000 students. Headquartered in Carmel, Indiana, it has been actively involved in the higher education community in the United States since 1969.

The six schools at the ITT Technical Institutes [School of Information Technology, School of Drafting and Design, School of Electronics Technology, School of Business, School of Criminal Justice, and School of Health Sciences] teach skills and knowledge that can be used to begin careers in our global technology-driven culture.*

Most ITT Tech programs of study blend traditional academic content with applied learning concepts, with a significant portion devoted to practical study in a lab environment. Advisory committees, comprised of representatives of local businesses and employers, help each ITT Technical Institute periodically assess and update curricula, equipment and laboratory design.

The ITT Technical Institute in Indianapolis, IN offers several programs online, including an online MBA program and bachelor and associate degree programs in the areas of business, technology, and criminal justice. With ITT Tech's online education, a quality education is now available when and where it is convenient for the student.

ITT Technical Institute Facts

According to U.S. Department of Education data, all of the ITT Technical Institutes combined granted the largest percentage (14.7 percent) of the total number of associate and bachelor degrees awarded in the U.S. in electronics and electronics-related programs in the 2000-2001 school year (the latest year for which statistics are available). All of the ITT Technical Institutes combined also granted the largest share (22.6 percent) of the total number of associate's and bachelor's degrees awarded in the U.S. in drafting programs during the same period.

The school encourages student activities to help develop individual initiative, group leadership and cooperation. It is a goal of the school to help provide students with the opportunity to participate in activities which relate to educational objectives, satisfy social needs, provide recreational opportunities and encourage cultural enrichment. School-related student activities must be sanctioned, approved and supervised by the school.

If the student must relocate to attend ITT Tech, an ITT Tech representative can assist the student in finding a place to live. ITT Tech may also be able to provide you with names of other students who may be interested in a roommate.

Many students work part-time while attending ITT Tech. If the student needs assistance finding a part-time job while in school, he or she should contact the Career Services Department. A list of part-time job leads may also be available for the student's use. (Part-time jobs listed at ITT Tech and part-time jobs obtained with the assistance of ITT Tech are typically not related to the student's education.)

Decisions concerning the acceptance of ITT Technical Institute credits by any institution other than an ITT Technical Institute are made at the sole discretion of the receiving institution. ITT Technical Institute makes no representation whatsoever concerning the transferability of any ITT Technical Institute credits to any institution other than an ITT Technical Institute. It is unlikely that any credits earned at an ITT Technical Institute will be transferable to or accepted by any institution other than an ITT Technical Institute.

Students considering continuing their education at, or transferring to, any institution other than ITT Technical Institute must not assume that credits earned at ITT Technical Institute will be accepted by the receiving institution. An institution's accreditation does not guarantee that credits earned at that institution will be accepted for transfer by the other institution. Students must contact the registrar of the receiving institution to determine what ITT Technical Institute credits, if any, that institution will accept.

That depends on the student. Some students continue their education by pursuing a bachelor's degree at an ITT Technical Institute.* Most graduates begin pursuing their careers in a variety of entry-level positions in various fields involving their program of study within a matter of months after graduation. Some may stay in their present jobs. Others may take a break between school and work.

* Not all ITT Technical Institutes offer degree programs or degrees. Programs of study offered vary among ITT Technical Institute campuses.

ITT Technical Institute Expectations

ITT Tech online courses consist of six or twelve, one-week modules that are delivered online with an instructor who leads a group of students through the course content. The instructor posts lessons and information, facilitates discussions and assigns projects for completion. Courses begin and end at designated dates and times, and there are deadlines for assignments and exams. Within this structure, you can access the course at any time to complete your work. The course is taken completely online.

ITT Tech's online courses feature the following:

• Text-based lecture material, including graphics, PowerPoint slides and other formats.
• On-line assessments with feedback.
• Group-based discussions, using message boards on which you can post and respond to messages.
• Textbooks, CD-ROMs and other materials delivered by regular mail when you become registered.
• Access to instructor and student e-mail addresses for private discussions.

Demand for high-tech professionals exceeds the supply of qualified workers. The Information Technology Association of America estimates that nearly 425,000 IT jobs will go unfilled in the United States in 2001. All of their programs have been designed in consultation with employers to help graduates prepare for a career in their field of study.

Course requirements for online courses are academically equivalent to the courses taught on campus. The primary difference is that you will not see your instructor and classmates face to face. You are responsible for logging into the course, following instructions and completing the work that is assigned. Although online learning takes motivation, ITT Technical Institute has structured its online courses to help you work toward your degree. Instructors monitor your participation in the online classroom just as they would in the regular classroom.

You will generally be expected to spend between 12 and 15 hours per week for each four credit hour course. You can access courses on the days and times that best suit your schedule. To keep up with the class assignments, it is generally best to log into the course at least once per day, at least five days per week. Your participation is monitored and contributes toward your final grade.

Most six-week courses are four credit hours. To graduate from the Technical Project Management for Electronic Commerce bachelor's degree program of study, you must satisfy all of the graduation requirements.

Accreditation

The ITT Technical Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), which is an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
