A history of being ahead of the curve.

West Coast University has entered its centennial year in California. For 100 years, West Coast University has been educating and preparing adult students to enter the workforce and make a difference.

Today, West Coast University is the first and only private, proprietary, post secondary institution in the state approved to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing – the coveted BSN. In early 2005, West Coast University became only the second ever college of its kind to be granted a Registered Nursing preparation program by the Board of Registered Nursing – it’s their Associate’s Degree in Nursing program. The approval of both programs is truly a testament to WCU’s quest for and ability to achieve excellence.

WCU was originally charted in 1909 as an ophthalmology school and spent a century growing – adding and updating programs – including being one of the first schools to offer Bachelor’s degree programs for working adults in the 1950’s. In May of 1997, the University was reorganized and new leadership emerged. Their efforts focused on becoming a leader in health care education and attracting top caliber faculty and staff. WCU designed programs to invigorate and excite students so that they enter the workforce with the skills and the confidence to compete with the best and to enjoy a lifetime membership in the health care community.
